How Google Ads Actually Works

Google Ads is an auction, not a billboard. When someone searches, Google runs an instant auction among advertisers bidding on that search, and you only pay when someone clicks.

The highest bid doesn’t automatically win. Google multiplies your bid by a Quality Score — how relevant your ad is to the search, how useful your landing page is, and how often people click it. A well-built campaign with a strong landing page can outrank a competitor bidding more per click, and pay less doing it.

That’s the whole job: getting in front of people already searching for what you sell, and making the click cheap enough that the work it wins is worth more than the spend.

Start with Search. Search campaigns are text ads that appear when someone actively looks for what you do. Display, YouTube and Performance Max have their place, but they’re awareness plays. Search is intent — someone typed the thing they want, right now.

How We Approach It

  • We start with conversion tracking. If we can’t measure what a lead costs, we’re guessing.
  • We begin narrow — tight keywords, tight geography — then expand into what’s working.
  • Negative keywords from week one, so budget stops leaking on searches that will never convert.
  • The landing page gets as much attention as the ad, because that’s where the money is won or lost.
  • You own your Google Ads account. It’s your data and your history — if we ever part ways, it stays with you.

Google Ads Questions, Answered

How long does it take for Google Ads to work?

Clicks start the day your campaigns go live — that’s the point of paid search. But meaningful optimization needs conversion data, and that takes weeks to accumulate. Early on we’re gathering signal: which keywords convert, which ads earn clicks, where budget is leaking. Anyone promising optimized performance in week one is guessing.

What determines how much Google Ads management costs?

Three things, mostly. How much you’re spending on ads — a small monthly budget and a large one need different levels of attention. How many campaigns you’re running, since a single service in one city is simpler than eight services across a region. And how competitive your market is, because expensive keywords need tighter management to stay profitable. We scope it to your situation rather than quoting a package before we understand your business.

Is Google Ads better than SEO?

They solve different problems. Google Ads buys visibility immediately and stops the day you stop paying. SEO takes months but compounds, and the traffic keeps coming after the work is done. Most businesses are best served running ads for the searches that convert now while building organic presence underneath — which is what our SEO, AEO & GEO services are for.

What happens if I stop running ads?

Your traffic stops that day. That’s the honest tradeoff with paid search — you’re renting visibility, not building it. It’s exactly why we’d rather see ads running alongside organic work than instead of it.

Do I need a separate landing page for Google Ads?

Usually, yes. Sending paid traffic to your homepage makes visitors hunt for what your ad promised, and most of them won’t. A focused page that matches the ad — same offer, one clear action — converts better and improves your Quality Score, which lowers what you pay per click.

Do you manage Facebook and Instagram ads too?

Those are part of our Social Media Marketing services rather than this one. Search ads reach people actively looking for you; social ads reach people who aren’t searching yet. Different tools, different jobs.
